Cheddar and Chive Scones

These scones are the perfect side dish to any soup or stew or on their own. Full of cheese and chives and flaky layers.

Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • cup cold butter
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 tablespoons chives thinly sliced
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • ¾ cup milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Add all dry ingredients in a large bowl and add butter. Using a pastry cutter blend until butter forms small crumbs, about pea size. Add cheddar and chives and stir.
  • Mix eggs and milk together and add to the flour mixture, stir until a dough forms.
  • Turn onto a clean counter and knead until the dough is almost smooth.
  • Form dough into a circle about 8 inches in size and cut into 8 wedges.
  • Place scones on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush with milk or egg wash.
  • Bake for 18-20 minutes or until they are cooked through and golden brown on top.
